  • Vintage Serving Tray, Relish Dish, Antique-Clear Glass Pattern, French Glass Tray, Servingware, Serving Plate, (Discontinued)
  • Made in: Arques, France by Arc International
  • Vintage:  1970's - 1990
  • Details:  This is a very nice pattern, originally sold by Luminarc and continued to be sold under the brand Cristal D'Arques-Durand starting 1990 but was discontinued in 2010.   This piece had the original Luminarc sticker at one point so it is easy to identify as pre-1990.  See below for more information on manufacturer and brand.   The pattern is called "Antique " and it also comes in ruby red and amethyst this is the "clear", it features a very intricate design with lots of cut diamonds and palms under triangular arches.  This dish is not only beautiful but it's also a workhorse for entertaining.  It can be used as originally intended, as a relish dish, but could easily be used for crackers and cheese spread, chips and dip, breads and oil for dipping, melted chocolate and fruits, as a charcuterie tray, so many uses, I'm sure you can think of more.

Arc International was founded by two gentleman, Charles Carpentier in 1823 and Alexander des Lyons de Noircarm in 1825.  The two companies merged and re-named "Verrerie Des Sept Ecluses" in the village of Arques in northern France.  In 1869 the company was acquired by another glassworks operating in Arques, and in 1892 the name was changed to "Verrerie Cristallerie d'Arques".  From 1897 onward, the company was dominated by the Durand family, they owned majority stock shares and eventually purchased the firm entirely in 1926. Today, the family continues to be the sole proprietors with Philippe Durand as company chairman.  Through the years they have grown, they've invented different types of glass and expanded their lines and brands which include: Luminarc (launched in 1948), Arcoroc (launched in 1963), Cristal d'Arques (launched in Europe in 1968), Chef & Sommelier (launched in 2008), and Arcopal (1958).  The official change in name and identity took place in 2000, "Verrerie Cristallerie d’Arques" formally changed their name to operate under Arc International. They have bought and sold many other brands like Pyrex (from 2006 - 2014) and even owned Mikasa from 2000-2008.   Luminarc is the oldest brand currently sold by Arc International, launched in 1948 in France, however, around 1979 they opened a factory in the USA, many Luminarc items are now made in the U.S.A.
